We keep a number of traditional breeds, such as Aylesbury, Saxony and calls. The Aylesburies are a traditional meat breed and they are kept for the table. The ducks are allowed to grow slowly to slaughter weight of between 1.5 and 3 kg. The Saxony is another heavy breed of duck. The calls are the opposite, small, active birds and the duck has the noisiest quake of them all, hence the name. We use these small ducks in the walled garden as slug and snail control.
