Beginner's chickens

Course Tutor
Sally Morgan of the Empire Farm

What you will learn

This is a beginner's session for people who are thinking about keeping a few chickens. Children are welcome on this course. A lot of topics are covered in this course including the different types of egg-laying chicken and where you can buy them, housing and runs - the pros and cons, feeding your chickens, disease, worming, dealing with mites and lice, protecting your chickens from the fox, introducing new chickens, as well as handling chickens and clipping their wings.

Administration

The course starts at 10 am and finishes at about 1 pm. Part of the session is spent outside looking at the chicken pens. Outdoor shoes or boots are advisable, with a change of footwear for when we are inside the teaching room. We will be handling birds that can be a bit mucky! Everybody gets to take away a set of notes and some fresh eggs.
