Making Apple Juice – Half Day
Course Tutor
Alan Berry of Blackmore Vale Cider
What you will learn
This is a three-hour afternoon session. First Alan introduces you to the basics of making apple juice – the apples, and the equipment you need. He demonstrates the whole process including the crushing of the fruit, followed by pressing. He shows you how to pasteurise the apple juice, enabling you to keep it for up to a year. The session ends ends with afternoon tea and cake.
We will have apples here, but if you would like to make juice from your own apples you are welcome to bring them along. When collecting apples for juicing make sure you pick them from the tree, and not from the ground. Give them a rinse and bring them in a bag or box. About three carrier bags of apples will be sufficient to fill the hopper so you have a whole batch of your own apples going through the process.
Please bring along some bottles in which to take away your apple juice (we will have a selection of bottles here for purchase if you prefer).
